Instead of Bringing Wine, Bring These $20 or Under Whiskies
Typically, when going to house parties, it seems people spend under $20 for a bottle of wine. Why bring wine, when you can find whisky for that price?
By Ontario regulation, spirits can’t be sold under a certain price. It’s essentially somewhere between $22 to $24 depending on the volume. However, the LCBO does sell smaller bottles of whisky that go for cheaper. There’s a choice of three:
Canadian Club Classic 12 Year Old is one of Canada’s most underrated whiskies for its price. It’s a very light, sweet, and mildly spicy. There’s only a buck savings on this one, but this will last far longer than a bottle of wine in that same price point.
Wayne Gretzky Red Cask Whisky is a crowd pleaser. You can sip it or mix it, and it’s going to open up nicely on ice or with sparkling water. Gibson’s Finest Rare 12 Year Old is sweeter and a more classic Canadian whisky profile and it comes in at $16.95 with the sale.
Best Canadian Whiskies and American Whiskies for Under $50
Elijah Craig (my review) is $5.00 off back to its original price of a few years ago at $44.95. This is a terrific price for a great sipping bourbon. I’m still working on my Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel review, but I can offer a heads-up—It’s underrated. It’s also $10 off at $49.95. J.P. Wiser’s Triple Barrel Rye is my favourite whisky to use for Manhattans and Old Fashioned Cocktails. At under $30, it’s a terrific purchase.
Finally, there’s Bearface Triple Oak Canadian whisky at a five-dollar discount for $34.95. This is a great price for this Canadian whisky that you can sip, have on ice, or bring it into a Holiday themed cocktail. The bottle is also going to look great on your counter!
Single Malts and Irish Whiskeys for well under $100
Laphroaig 10 Year Old is the gentler peated Laphroaig single malt scotch, and at $72.95 it’s going to sell a ton. I’m also a big fan of the Lagavulin 8 Year Old (my review). Both of these are good values that won’t sit on your shelves for long.
Redbreast 12 Year Old (my review) is, by far, the best crowd pleasing whisky in any category for its price. It’s available at a $10 discount for $69.95. Old school Redbreast drinkers will quickly point out that in the “good old days” that’s the original price of this whisky. Fair. But unless prices drop again, this is the best price we’re likely to see Redbreast sell for.
