Whisky Drinking Culture is Changing

A lot has changed since I got my first book deal, and wrote The Whisky Cabinet all the way back in 2013. The most famous bourbon, Pappy Van Winkle, was just getting discovered. The Macallan had yet to sell a single malt whisky for over a million dollars. We could buy a bottle of Elmer T. Lee on a whim! Japanese whisky was still available. Collecting whisky was just starting to become a thing.

Bourbon, Scotches, and Japanese whiskies now have a luxury status that make them less-affordable to the average consumer. In addition to inflated prices, whisky production has also changed with the times. Whiskies are now finished in all sorts of fortified and non-fortified barrels, and a new era of whisky finished in Mezcal barrels is hitting the market!

Why Support whisky.buzz and The Whisky Topic Podcast?

We have an absolute need for independent voices, but we're losing them quickly. I'm not paid by any whisky distributor, PR company, or anyone else related to the whisky business. I do earn an income hosting private whisky tastings for individuals and businesses, but I’d love to do more for the community. This is an opportunity to support sustainable independent voices in your whisky community.

What will I do with your support?

This money will be invested back into you. This is what I plan to do in the future with your support

  • Bring in paid writers to produce original content for whisky.buzz. This will include news, editorials, and reviews.

  • Hire my podcast producer (Bryan Goman) to produce each episode we record.

  • Dedicate more time to producing podcasts and original whisky writing.
